At Steps to Light Counselling, we understand that life can bring intense emotional pain, trauma, and high-pressure responsibilities. I believe that therapy should feel fundamentally safe, structured, respectful, and human. When you come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or emotionally exhausted, my primary role is to help you slow things down, understand what you are experiencing, and begin to feel more grounded and in control of your life. Healing is not about fixing a broken version of yourself or becoming someone entirely different; rather, it is about reconnecting with your inherent strengths, building resilience, and moving toward the sustainable well-being you want under the pain.
My clinical practice is grounded in extensive experience across multiple sectors of the mental health system. Currently, I work full-time with Alberta Health Services within virtual mental health and addiction services, executing clinical assessments and evidence-based psychotherapy for diverse and geographically dispersed populations. My robust clinical background includes working in acute hospital environments, emergency department crisis stabilization units, and community mental health programs. This diverse experience gives me a deep understanding of both urgent, high-acuity crisis intervention needs and the long-term, patient healing processes required for lasting change.
I hold professional social work registrations that allow me to perform restricted psychosocial interventions across provincial boundaries. My credentials include:
Registered Social Worker (RSW) – Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW)
Registered Social Worker (RSW) – Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)
Master of Social Work (MSW) – Specialization in Medical and Psychiatry from Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, India (fully recognized by the Canadian Association of Social Workers)
Certified EMDR Therapist – EMDR International Association (EMDRIA)
Clinical Certificates – Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (University of Calgary), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (PESI), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (PESI)
